"We Put Her There": The Contributors. This video chronicles the struggle of
ordinary citizens, both in France and the U.S., to finance the Statue of
Liberty. From inception to completion, a span of fourteen years, it was the
generosity of thousands of volunteers on both sides of the Atlantic which
realized the dream. No government was involved.
